London Business School – Application Essays and Important Dates (Fall’25 Intake)
London Business School is one of the most sought-after business schools globally. They look for uniqueness in the students and expect their batch to be diverse. The school puts a lot of emphasis on leadership qualities, they want their graduates to be future leaders. Consistently, they look for individuals who can innovate and become global leaders. They promote innovation, focusing on how things can be done differently. And they seek such qualities in their prospective students, this is evident in their essay prompts as well. LBS has been asking the three essay questions or prompts (mentioned below) over multiple admissions cycle. This prompts highlight that LBS really wants to get to know their applicants, and at the same time they provide applicants with an option to share any other relevant information via optional essay question which is very open-ended. Applicants will also have enough space to talk about their background in various questions that form a part of the application, some of these questions feel like small essays.
In this article, we provide you with suggestions on attempting the essay prompts or questions which they have been asking.
Prompt 1: What are your post-MBA goals and how will your prior experience and the London Business School programme contribute towards these? (500 words)
In this prompt, you can include your sources of motivation for your current engagements. You can explore aspects or broader themes like whether your interest areas or motivation has changed, what were the trigger points for those changes? You can mention about your future plans (feel free to logically deduce your future plans based on your past experiences). Clearly define your plans after graduation- include job roles or domains you would like to enter, your rationale behind joining the space? How do you see yourself in that role? What kind of impact you can bring while in the role or position? Have you charted out any plans or strategies already? As mentioned earlier, prior experience will help in logically convincing about your fit to the program. Hence, include your work profile, include numbers, and quantify the impact you had on your organization(s) and skill sets you acquired. Focus on integrating your skill sets, experiences, values with those of LBS and highlighting how LBS can help you with your career aspirations.
Overall, don’t write this section as your resume (as the essay has lots of components common with resume). Try to keep the response in a very straightforward manner. Clarify the contexts for each example given, be specific. There are chances that you might not have the required clarity on your post MBA goals and that is perfectly fine. You just need to do some extra research or might volunteer or do internships at organisations while you chart out your plans, this might give you some unique perspectives in your essay.
Prompt 2: What makes you unique? (200 words)
You need to stand out among the large pool of applications which the school receive. This is the section or prompt where you would like to bring out your unique background, experiences, approach towards life, professional experience, main interests or hobbies, thought processes. You can use anecdotes. Your uniqueness should be reflected in your writings. In the previous section, you mentioned who you are and what you are planning to do with the MBA. Here, you show how your profile would add to the overall diversity pool of the school.
Prompt 3 (optional): Is there any other information you believe the Admissions Committee should know about you and your application to London Business School? (500 words)
This is an open-ended section. Here, cover aspects which you would want the admission committee to know about you. Anything important which you could not explain earlier goes here. Any weaknesses or deviation (say low grades somewhere during your academic journey), you explain here along with any other experiences you might have had. Explain any anomalies. How have such experiences defined or improved your personality? How have you utilised your learnings in your personal as well as professional space. You can talk more about yourself, consider this as an opportunity to tell the committee about yourself, interests, values, goals, motivation sources, evidence of leadership and teamwork.
